Most cat owners have almost certainly pondered the question of affection and their cat. I think it's fair to say they have strong self preservation instincts and that they see us as providers of food and comfort. The question of whether they actually feel affection is a bit more tricky. Our human experience conditions us to recognise certain behaviour as signs of attachment or affection so when our cat looks up at us 'adoringly' we think he loves us. Does he ? Considering that cats are solitary animals it seems reasonable to think that when they seek us out and not just at dinner time, that they are looking for 'affection and reassurance just like we do but I guess we'll never really know.
